Simplify Your Life

I have recently come to a point in my life at which I have severely overextended myself. Everyone goes through these periods. I feel very worn out, unorganized, and never good enough. After much prayer, I came to realize that my life needed a little spring cleaning.

I deleted my personal Myspace and Facebook accounts, cut the number of blogs I subscribe to in half, and stopped reading TMZ. And that's just my internet activities!

I have cut a lot of unnecessary things out of my life and re-organized the rest. Although I am still working on it, I already feel a bit lighter. I have more time to read and I feel much better about my work. My goal is to become a better friend, roommate, girlfriend, and wedding planner by dividing my time more wisely.

So why am I telling you this? Well first of all, I want you to know that I will only be posting about once a week. Therefore, you will hear from me less, but hopefully my posts will have more substance.

Secondly, I'd like to challenge you. If you read this blog, consider yourself challenged. Sincerely consider it! How much joy do you have in your life? Do you feel overcommitted? Do you have a problem saying no? Take some time to ponder all of the things that compete for your time. Is there anything that you can simplify? For example, the blogs you subscribe to. Are there any that just don't inspire you anymore? If you feel like I do, and you choose to take the challenge, let me know how you're doing!

Vocab Tuesday-Catering Terms

Well divas, this marks the third and final chapter of our vocabulary series. I hope you learned something useful! I'll still bust out the schooling from time to time. Today I'll freshen up your knowledge of catering definitions.

Hand Service: All waiters serve the guests punctually at the same time. One waiter for every two guests. This is the kind of service that you've probably seen in a romantic movie when the warming covers are all removed at the same time and presented to the guests.

Russian Service or Silver Service: A very formal style; waiters make their rounds around the room with servers and guests serve themselves from the platters.

Plated Service or American Style: Plates are prepared in the kitchen and brought out to the table several at a time. One server can place several dishes on one banquet tray and present them at the same time.

Buffet Service: The most well-known type; buffet is exactly what it sounds like. A banquet table is set up with all of the preparations and guests form a line to serve themselves.

Food Stations: This style has gained popularity in recent years. Stations are set up around the room of different types of food. Ex: Pasta station, Fruit station, Carving station, etc. This helps control the traffic a little better than a buffet.

New digs

Last weekend I moved into a new house. I love it! I have much more space and it's so much brighter and inviting than my old place.

In this new house, I have a home office, which is 100% better than the corner I had before. I cannot be productive in the midst of clutter. I know some people that can sit in the middle of a disastrous room with a lap top and have at it. I, on the other hand, can't do it. So this is a great promotion for me.

In other company news. My second wedding since I moved to Wilmington is coming up in about 3 1/2 weeks! It is a very exciting, but extremely busy time. Wish me luck!

Vocab Tuesday-Fabric Terms

Vocab Tuesday was moved to Vocab Wednesday this week due to a shortage of hours in the day and an excess of markings on my to-do list. In other words: I'm late! So let's get started!

Have you been dress shopping yet? If so, you may have been a little discombobulated by the many different types of fabric that exist to make your gown oh-so-fabulous. Here are a few definitions to set you straight.

Charmeuse: A somewhat clingy fabric that has a bit of a shine to it. It is usually woven with silk, cotton, or rayon. Dresses made from this type are best for those bridesmaids who have nothing to hide.

Georgette: A silky textile that is very similar to chiffon, but it is made with crepe yarn instead of silk. It is soft and transparent.

Organza: This is a sheer material as well, but is much stiffer and holds more body than georgette or chiffon.

Taffeta: It is also stiff and holds body with it's crisp texture. It holds a sheen, and often changes shade when looked at from a different angle. The picture above is a great example of taffeta.

Until next time, leave a comment with any questions you might have!
